Robert VanTiggelen, 88, of Alsace Township, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Emily E. (Boltz) VanTiggelen.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Firman A. and Esther (Koukoulis) VanTiggelen.
Robert was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church-Stony Creek. He was also a member of the Virginville Grange, a
50 year member of the Stony Creek A.A., Lower Alsace Fire Company, Reading Liederkranz, Evergreen Country Club-Oley, Pikeville Sportsman’s Club and a life member of the American Legion Post #12 (David Gregg Post). Robert was a machinist for Textile Machine Works for 12 years, then was in machine, air conditioning and refrigeration and vacuum maintenance for Western Electric for 28 years, retiring in 1986. After his retirement, Bob was so proud to help start Van Industries in Birdsboro, which he loved being a part of.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by: One Son: Douglas L. VanTiggelen husband of Joan Greenwood VanTiggelen of Bernville: Two Grandchildren: Alan Robert and Vanessa Pam; He was pre-deceased by his son Robert Allan VanTiggelen in 1980, and his brother Jack A. VanTiggelen.
Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn. Interment in Spies-Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethany E.L. Church Memorial Fund 1375 Friedensburg Road Reading, PA 19606.
