Geraldine Sockel

Geraldine T. Sockel, 86, formerly of Pennside, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center . She was the widow of Jay B. Sockel who passed away January 16, 2008. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John and Nellie (Kowalchic) Meshinsky. Geraldine was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1948 and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. where she was very involved. She was a waitress most of her life, waitressing at Nicks' Chat-A-While for over 20 years and then at Suburban Tavern until her retirement. Geraldine is survived by four sons, David J. of Wyomissing, James B. of Exeter Township, John R. of Myrtle Beach, SC and Jay A. of Pennside; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, John Meshinsky of Arizona and one sister, Dorothy Zimmerman of Maryland. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm in St. Catharine of Siena Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. The family would like to thank the staff at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center for the excellent care of their mother over the years.
