George Giles

George Ernest Giles, 88, of Wyomissing, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Columbia Cottage. He was the husband of Joan D. (Mohring) Giles. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George W. and Ethel (Deysher) Giles. George was a graduate of Reading High School and Bucknell University with degrees in Psychology and Economics. In college, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was a two-sport athlete playing soccer and basketball. During his senior year he was chosen as the Outstanding Athlete on the soccer team. He continued his passion for sports playing basketball for the Crystal Restaurant and later assistant coach for the Penn Alsace Junior’s football team under the late “Chin” Rhoads. He was the owner and operator of George E. Giles Insurance Agency for over 50 years. He was a principle investor and president of Le Chateau Inn and Country Club Poconos, PA. George loved golf and excelled with 7 holes in one. He was a Board Member of The Berkshire Country Club. George and Joan spent their winter months in Palm Springs, CA. George is survived by his children, David G. Giles husband of Veronica M. of Birdsboro, Kim M. Giles of Arlington, VA, Greg K. Giles husband of Jennifer of Wyomissing and Brian K. Giles husband of Jennifer of Exeter Township; five grandchildren, Gordon, Carina, Shawn, Amanda and Evan Morris and Samantha Giles. One great-grandchild, Halden. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Janet Schonour. Services and interment private at the convenience of the family. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., Mount Penn in charge of arrangements.
