Edmund C. Pieller, 102, of Heidelberg Township passed away Wednesday, May 16 in Reading Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Catherine J. (Kline) Pieller. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late George and Teresa Gawryliuk, Romanian and Austrian immigrants who had become US citizens. He was a member of St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church in Robesonia, PA. He was a licensed real estate broker but worked most of his life as a dairy farmer.
He was a decorated WWII veteran, having served in the 1st infantry Div., U.S. Army in the European theatre in all 7 major campaigns and having received Silver and Bronze Stars with clusters and a Purple Heart. He was recently inducted into the Berks County Veterans Hall of Fame.
Family was most important to Ed. He truly loved and was devoted to his wife, Catherine, of 72 years. He loved the outdoors. In recent years he could be found riding his gator, playing cards, playing his accordion, or relaxing with family and basking in the warmth from his wood stove.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their seven children: June Shiffer, wife of Dale; Edmund D. Pieller; Darlene (Sue) DeLong; Larry Pieller; Diane J. (Pieller) Sutphin, wife of Patrick (Randy); Randy Pieller, husband of Diane; and Steve Pieller.
He is survived by grandchildren: Adam, Daniel, K. Michael, Teaa, Aaron, Toby, Nathan, Jessica, and Zachary (Zac). He was predeceased by two grandsons, Brian and Josiah, as well as one great grandson, Eric. There were 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was also pre-deceased by two brothers, Frank and Herman and two sisters, Helen and Anna.
