Earl Robert "Bob" Unger

Earl Robert "Bob" Unger, 86, of Exeter Township, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Berkshire Center. He was the husband of Arlene C. (Clungeon) Unger. Born in Freeland, Pa, he was a son of the late Earl and Helen (Gaffney) Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of Pennside Presbyterian Church. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Pottsville where he earned a letter in seven sports and was on the Princeton Football Team. He was a pitcher with Savannah, a triple A team and did a short stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. As a tribute to his contribution to his sports, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper activities he shared with his family. Bob was a manager for CNA Insurance for many years until his retirement. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two sons, Richard B. and Andrew K. Unger and one daughter, Amy C. (Unger) Morton-Hockensmith; three grandchildren, Sarah, Amanda and Laura and two great-grandchildren, Fern and Canon. He was pre-deceased by his son, Robert C. Unger on August 25, 1983. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N. 25th Street, Reading, PA 19606. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pennside Presbyterian Church Music Program at the above stated address. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc.
