Lawrence M. Houp

Lawrence M. Houp, 96, of Oley, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Ruth C. (Wegman) Houp with whom he would celebrate 75 years of marriage this March. Born in Oley, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Araminda B. (Mathias) Houp. Lawrence was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Oley, a graduate of Oley High School in 1942 and was a board member of the Oley Union Cemetery since 1951. Lawrence was the owner/operator of the family dairy farm. He worked in maintenance at the Exeter and Oley High Schools from 1978-1988 and he and his wife mowed and maintained the Oley Union Cemetery in Spangsville for 14 years.

In addition to his wife, Lawrence is survived by two sons, Lawrence W. Houp, husband of Priscilla of Limekiln and Gerald W. Houp, husband of Ilona of Oley, two daughters, Anita M.Heydt, wife of Charles of Jacksonwald and Lynne R. Cover, wife of Ronald of Mohnton. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Paul Houp and his sisters, Annie Wolf, Catherine Houp, Bessie Rapp, Araminda Houp and Regina Moyer.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606. Service is private.
