When I was 6 years old and Emma was 14, she always helped her parents hand out dixi cups of ice cream after a church function and I would line up and let others in front of me so that I got mine from Emma. Emma had a pink lambs wool coat with black velvet collar and pocket trim on it. I wanted a coat like it and the best my parents could find was a blue lambs wool coat. I remember going to their apartment on Perkiomen Ave after they were married and Dave was still in the Navy. We went there so my dad could help her father hang something on the wall. I wanted to live in an apartment like that one. Then as I aged life activities and locations drifted us apart. I was thrilled when Herb told me he was going golfing with David Culp. Can it be Emma's David? It was!!! That little white ball led us to going to Albright College basketball games, Albright College chorus and choir programs, dinner together, playing cards at their house in Exeter and their apartment at Flying Hills. Emma always had her smile and kind heart. The teenager who captured my heart will always live in my heart. Some day I will get to see her smile again. Until then I will miss her.
Judy Zettlemoyer.
