Robert E. Schmehl, 94, of Exeter Township, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, in Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of the late Lois (Diener) Schmehl, who passed away in May 2015. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Leda (Bricker) Schmehl. Robert graduated from Reading High School in 1944 and attended Rutgers University School of Banking. He was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church where he was former treasurer and council member. He was also the former treasurer for the Optimist Club of Reading, and American Heart Association. Robert served as the former president of the American Institute of Banking and the Administrative Management Society, and was a former member of the Planning Commission in Exeter Township. Robert proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Robert worked in the banking industry for 45 years. He began as an assistant treasurer for City Bank, ended up with Reading Trust (Wachovia) as Assistant VP until his retirement in 1991.

Robert is survived by one son Keith R. husband of Tammy L., Exeter and grandson Bryan K. husband of Danielle, Downingtown; and two great-granddaughters Isabelle and Adalynn.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 29 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Schwarzwald Lutheran Church 250 Church Lane Reading, PA 19606.
