Obituary for Eleanor K. Eisenhower (Komlodi)

Eleanor K. Eisenhower (Komlodi)
Eleanor K. Eisenhower, 90, of Reading, passed away, Monday, April 23, 2018 in Luther Acres Manor. She was the wife of Walter D. Eisenhower, Jr. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Elsie (Schubert) Komlodi. Eleanor graduated from Reading High School in 1945, had a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Temple University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Audubon for 47 years and recently transferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Leola. Eleanor was a devoted wife and mother. After college, she worked as a business manager for The Lutheran magazine. In addition to her husband, Eleanor is survived by one son W. David, III husband of Maria of Philadelphia and three daughters, Deborah Volker of York, Diana Hughes wife of Glenn of Lancaster and Julia Gustafson wife of Grant of Long Beach, California. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother Edmund. She is predeceased by one daughter Eileen and one brother Peter.

Eleanor was a remarkable woman. She was intelligent, skillful in homemaking arts, super organized, hardworking, a faithful friend, active into her 80’s, and full of life. Eleanor was known for her warm smile and generous heart. Her love of people, coupled with her love for God, compelled her to continually open her home to friends and family, as well as strangers in need. She loved babies and all children and especially delighted in her grandchildren. Keeping in step with her servant’s heart, she was a faithful and active member of her church. Eleanor and Walter (Zoot and Ellie) were devoted to one another for 70 years. She was deeply cherished by her family and close friends and will be sorely missed by all.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 9:30 am -10:30 am with services beginning at 10:30 am in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. Flowers are appreciated or donations in Eleanor's name can be made to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104. For online condolences, please visit
