Col. James F. Lemp USA Retired, 78 died May 5th at his home. Born June 6, 1939, in Trenton, NJ. He was the son of the late Col. John Lemp and Helena (Braddock) Lemp Sebrell. James was the husband of Christine (Hartmann) Helfrich Lemp. They were married on Oct. 3rd, 2009 by then Mayor of Reading, Tom McMahon, during Oktoberfest at the Reading Liederkranz. James was preceded in death by his son CPT. James V. Lemp, stepfather Dr. Henry Sebrell, stepson Kenneth R. Helfrich and beloved dog Mortimer. James is survived by his loving wife, his brother COL. John Lemp and wife Susan of CO, and their children, his sister Helena L. Duggan,CA, a son Craig N. Lemp and wife Sherri and their children, daughter Karen L. Kim and husband Mark and their children, and Christine Y. Lemp, widow of Cpt. James V. and their children all of TX. Surviving also is the children's mother Susanne Williams.TX.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter Iris A. Helfrich, Palmyra, VA, and a stepson, Michael R. Helfrich, York, PA. He will also be missed by his Best Friend Jeffrey Eshelman and Judi. Col. Lemp graduated from Montgomery Blair H.S., at Silver Spring MD. in 1957, having had his 60th reunion May 3rd 2018 where he had a great time. He graduated Cum Laude from U. of Idaho with a BS in Geological Engineering in Aug. 1961, earned his M.S. in Engineering from Purdue U. in Aug.1964. His Military Education included his Basic Officer Orientation Course at Ft. Belvor, Va, finishing first in his class; Disdinguished graduate of the Career Engineer Officers Course in June, 1965; Graduated with Honors from the Command and General Staff Officers Course in April, 1978. Jim worked his way from ROTC Cadet to COL. COL. Lemp was a Vietnam Veteran for the United States Army. He was quite a man. One of Jim's greatest pleasure was taking over from his father as President of the Lemp Development Company, Inc., holding the family together as Shareholders.
Col. Lemp was a lifetime member of the VFW,AL,MOA,ROA, PURDUE Alumni; member of the Teutonia Lodge 367. He was a 20 year member at the Reading Liederkranz and a member at the Evergreen Heimatbund, St.Gabriel Italian Social Club and the Irish American Fraternal Assoc. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 10, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave, Reading Pa 19606. Interment will be private in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, P.O.Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540 or any Wounded Warrior Project.
