Obituary

Anabel W. (Hill) Stump, 104, of Stony Creek Mills, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019, in Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she was a resident for five years. She was the beloved wife of the late Alton I. Stump, with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage. Born in Stony Creek Mills, PA, on March 9, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Laura (Wentzel) Hill. Anabel was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading and a long time member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Stony Creek. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with her children and grand children. Anabel also loved traveling with her husband throughout the United States and Europe in retirement years. She lived a long and extraordinary life! A life that her family shared with her for longer than most! She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Anabel is survived by her daughter Laura Rohrbach-McGettigan, wife of Neil and her son Leonard G. Stump, both of Reading. Also surviving are seven beloved grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews. Anabel was predeceased by her seven siblings. A private graveside service will be held at Spies Zion Cemetery. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Berks Heim for the care she received while there. In lieu of flowers contributions in Anabel's memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959. I just heard of Anabel's passing, and wanted to send my sincere condolences to the family, What a remarkable life she had! I know she was a breast cancer survivor, and took that, and all that life threw her way, in stride and with great resilience. I fondly remember the friendship that she and her husband shared with my parents over the years, and the many trips that they took together. My very best wishes to the family as you celebrate Anabel's life.....
Fondly,

Laura and Lennie,
Sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. She was an amazing woman and a wonderful friend to my parents. I know her passing comes as both a sad time for you but also a relief. She was an incredibly strong woman and that strength lives on in the two of you and the rest of your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Much love and sympathy,
Bob and Kathy Stock

I had the privilege of helping Anabel during occupational therapy treatment sessions between 2014 to 2016. Anabel was 99 years old when I first began working with her. She possessed the determination to be as independent as possible no matter how uncomfortable she was feeling. She was patient with herself as she learned new skills during self-care tasks. However, what most impressed me about Anabel was her loving spirit which was evident as she interacted with me and others. Her eyes twinkled and her smile was genuine. I will never forget Anabel, When unfortunate events happened in her life, she was determined to push on while being patient and loving to herself and others. Her behavior was inspiring. I am blessed to have met her.
