Obituary

Lucille C. Riegel, 65, of Reading, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Witman) Riegel. She was a 1973 graduate of Reading High School, after which she went on to receive her Bachelor's degree from Albright College in 1977 and was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church. Lucille was a Lay Minister in the Methodist Church and was a member of the Albright College Alunmi Association. She was always very interested in history and family genealogy. Lucille loved babysitting, spending time with her nieces and nephews and spoiling them any chance she got. Lucille worked in the lab at Reading Hospital for over 26 years until her retirement.

Lucille is survived by her sister Louise A. Kulp, North Carolina; nieces Denise Rathman and Ruth Williams; her nephew Jeffrey Kulp; and several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.LutzFuneralHome.com

First and foremost, Jeanne and I want to express our condolences to the Riegel and Kulp families for the loss of their loved ones and the incredible sorrows they are experiencing. Even though it's been a week since Lucy's passing, it's hard to rationalize that she's left her earthly home to join her Lord and Savior in heaven. God knows she's been through an incredible amount of medical related struggles over the past few years, and has finally been given rest from them. No more struggling, no more pain. Lucy, you'll be missed. What hits me most in thinking of her is how our lives were intertwined up until our early adult lives. We started our education together; 17th & Cotton, 16th & Haak, Southern, and Reading High. I remember having the pleasure of escorting her to (I believe it was) a Y-Teens Dance when she was active in that group at Reading High. We also served together on the 1973 Senior Class Ticket Committee. Our friendship continued outside of school at St. Matthew's where we both attended Sunday School, participated in Youth Fellowship, were acolytes, and later both served as Sunday School "Superintendents" and on the Church Administrative Board. Lucy went on with her involvement in the life of the church for the remainder of her life becoming a Lay Minister and serving in other capacities. She truly lived a life of service to others. We often say we don't know why the Good Lord does certain things He does, but now Lucy will receive her eternal reward for a life of service to others and the church she loved so much. Rest in Peace Lucy, you've earned your rest. You will be missed by all of your friends.
