Obituary

Our family lost our hero, Walter F Gasser, 87, of Spring Township, on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 in the Berkshire Center. He was the loving husband of Dolores Gasser, his wife of 27 years. Born in Mt. Penn, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Walter Gasser and Virgie Gasser (Swavely) He attended Boyertown Highschool, graduating in 1951. He was the owner of Glass Bakery and finished his career in baking at Maiers Bakery. Walter was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 62 Free & Accepted Masons, Reading, PA, The United States Army, and volunteered as a member at the Mt. Penn Fire Company as a fireman and later in life volunteered with his wife Dee at The Reading Hospital visiting patients to bring support with the Raggedy Ann and Andy program. But his most loyal service was to his family and friends. Always there, always fair, giving love and support with no judgment, no matter what. He was a great Husband, Father and Grandfather and through him we enjoyed many life experiences.

In addition to his wife Walter is survived by his children David Gasser, husband of Kathy, Kathy Halbeisen, wife of Chuck; Grandchildren Madison Gasser, Kaitlyn Halbeisen, and Stacy Halbeisen; Great-grandson Sonny Klopp; Step children Kerry Frymoyer, Kelly Zalegowski and Derek; Step grand-children Justin Zalegowski and Joshua Zalegowski, one step great-grandson Dylan Zalegowski, and his loving puppy Lexi.

We lost a Special Man with the passing of Walt. He was so kind, never said a bad thing about anyone. He was gentle, but had an inner strength. We had many a good times snowmobiling, parties at The Leiderkrantz, Pumpkin Chunkin. Good times, good memories. We will never forget him.

To the best Father in Law anyone could ever ask for. He was such a kind, gentle sweet man. His family was always priority. I will never forget the vacations down at the shore. He used to call his grand kids when they were little acting like Santa asking them what they wanted for Christmas and they never knew it was him and they loved it. Never ever had a bad thing to say about anyone. I will miss you being here with us but i know you are at peace. Until we meet again...

So very sorry to hear of Walt's passing. He was a great co worker who knew what being a team player involved. He was also a great supervisor. I will miss seeing him at the bakery workers retirement breakfasts. May God comfort his family in this loss. John Bowen

I worked with Walt at Maier's Bakery for several years and I would like to let you all know I considered him a fine man . Very friendly and a good co-worker. We always had a good time when I worked with him. He always had a smile and something nice to say. Never seemed to be in a bad mood. It was a pleasure to know him and I know he will be missed. The picture of him is perfect, that big smile was always there.
