Luz M. (Cuesta) Gomez, 66, of Exeter Township, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021, in Reading Hospital. Born March 13, 1954 in Bogota, Colombia, she was the daughter of Elias and Maria (Ramirez) Cuesta. Luz graduated from Springfield Garden High School in Queens, NY and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. She was a patient care assistant at the Reading Hospital for over 30 years. Luz loved her job just as much as she loved her co-workers and she never had an issue making friends where ever she went. After retirement she continued working at Bethany Children's Home where she provided exceptional direct care to undocumented Central American migrant youth and she brought her creativity with her and became their primary arts and crafts teacher. Luz absolutely loved her job and the children who affectionately called her "Tia". She was always an artist with her passion starting with calligraphy and card making. Luz was a creative spirit, constantly working on projects from cooking empanadas to sewing and crocheting, she has done it all...a true entrepreneur. She was full of life and brought a smile to anyone she came across.

Luz is survived by her husband Rafael Gomez, daughter Jennifer wife of Alan Phelps, California, son Jonathan, Reading, and one grandson Marshall Phelps who was the light of her life. She is also survived by one brother Jairo Cuesta and sisters Rosa Acuna and Maria Breen, as well as many nieces and nephew and sister-in-law Mercedes Cuesta widow of the late Fernando.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday February 12, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian burial being celebrated at St. Catharine Of Siena R.C.C. 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter, Pa 19606. My deepest condolences to Luz's family. I knew of Luz at the Reading Hospital. She was a very kind, friendly coworker. Luz was always there to help when you needed an extra hand, and she did it with a smile on her face. We shared many laughs as we tried to have a good time even on our busiest days. She will hold a place forever in my heart. I am sorry I did not see her obituary until today. God Bless you and be with you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Luz`s passing. I worked with Luz for many years in the Reading Hospital ER and found her to be a kind, caring person helping with the needs of our patients. She always greeted me with a smile, a hug, and “Hi George!” I will miss her. My prayers are with Luz and her family.

Luz was the best coworker you could ask for. She was always happy and willing to help anyone and everyone. She was so welcoming to me when I starting as a physician at Reading. She will be missed greatly.
