A classmate of ours from Central Catholic HS, class of 71, wrote to tell me of Rich's passing. I was so saddened by this news, especially when this September our class shall gather together to celebrate our fiftieth reunion. Rich was always a very private person but I would have hoped that he would have come to share in this milestone of our lives.

I have the best and oftentimes funniest memories of Rich who I believe was the very first non- Roman Catholic to attend Central Catholic and he even had a special dispensation from religion classes; I think his father had made specific arrangements for Rich to have a study period instead. Rich and I would take the city bus home after classes. While attending CCHS, Rich was living with an aunt who lived on St. Lawrence Avenue. We did so much laughing as well as arguing on that bus ride home. Oftentimes Rich would pull out his bible and read passages out loud AT me, not TO me but invariably, not too long after I would get home, Rich would phone me to have a happy conversation. I remember that one Easter he sent me this humongous beautifully decorated chocolate Easter egg. It was the size of a football!

We stayed friends throughout high school as well as throughout our time at Albright College. My father paid Rich at Christmas time to help me deliver the heavy crate of naval oranges which he gave out at Christmas to those doctor offices that supported his laboratory, Quality Control Medical Laboratory. So often during those years of delivering oranges, which we did after classes, it was so dark and snowy. I could not read a map and drive so Rich would be riding shot gun with a flash light reading a map and all too often calling out directions after we had passed our turning. Without Rich I would never have gotten the job done. Some of those offices were as far away as Hamburg, Fleetwood, Pottsville, Pottstown.... We did so much laughing during those annual Christmas orange deliveries.

Rich and I went our separate ways after college, only sporadically seeing one another. Last time I saw Rich was many years ago in a restaurant. He had taken his mother out for breakfast. Rich was always so good to his mother. Shortly after that unexpected meeting, my husband and I relocated to South Carolina. I extend my sincere sympathy to all of Rich's family and friends. Rich was a great part of eight years of my life and I will remember him for his quirky sense of humor and his kindness.
