Paul E Jones, 90, of Exeter Township, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Paul was the husband of Barbara (Bodman) Jones, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. Born in Hickory, North Carolina where he gained his nickname of “Cooter,” he was the son of the late Arthur and Lettie "Nona" (Gragg) Jones. While working for the Reading School District, Jones coached Jr. High basketball and football, as well as Sr. High Varsity baseball, where he enjoyed significant success, including the 1983 State Championship.

After retiring from teaching and coaching, Jones spent his days playing golf and announcing and operating the scoreboard at Reading High events.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his children Scott Jones, husband of Becky Pfeifer, Texas; Suzanne Jones Zimmerman, Mohnton; Sandra Strausser, Shillington; and Sherry Gehr, Exeter Township. It was a privilege to work with Cooter a few years at NEMS and watch him coach our son in HS baseball. Also, enjoying some golf outings with such a wonderful man. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

I have great memories of him as coach P J from Northeast Jr. High football. He had a great life. May he rest in peace and still cheer on the Reading Phillies! Fran
