Jean M (Griesemer) Arnold, 79, of St. Lawrence, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late J. Douglas Arnold, who passed away August 28, 2020. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Pauline (Eberly) Griesemer. Jean attended the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, and went on to work as a Registered Nurse at Reading Hospital for many years. She did bookkeeping for her husband at his company, Arnold Advertising Corporation, and later worked for a local CPA.
Once an avid tennis player who earned a myriad of trophies, she eventually traded her racket for a spade, lovingly tending to her various flowers, plants, and trees. Jean was also an accomplished cook who reveled in feeding both friends and family. She delighted in solitaire, Boggle and puzzles, and excitedly awaited the morning newspaper so she could do her Sudoku and word jumbles. Jean was a passionate member of various bridge clubs and book clubs. She would read several books in their entireties each and every week, ultimately consuming thousands of books.
Jean traveled much of the world, but particularly enjoyed Italy, Turkey, and sailboat trips in the Caribbean with her husband. In addition to spending time with her five grandchildren, she loved relaxing with her adoring corgi, Sophie.
Though always thinking of others and modest to the very end, her family and friends knew she was a unique and beautiful gem, with a luminous smile and personality.
Jean is survived by her son, Alex Arnold, husband of Kelly, Wernersville, her daughters Jessica Arnold, Philadelphia, and Rachel Arnold, Reading, her grandchildren Abby, Gabe, Ben, Sam, and Luke, and her sister Marilyn Fidazzo, wife of Jim, West Wyomissing.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, Pa 19606.
