Mary Ellen Paciulli (Golden)

August 12, 1938 — September 18, 2021

Mary Ellen (Golden) Paciulli died peacefully in her home on September 18, 2021. For anyone who did not know, which is unlikely as she told everyone it was her birthday for weeks leading up to the day, she just celebrated her 83rd birthday. She was the second daughter to John and Marian (Burns) Golden and was raised in North Wales PA. After high school she studied to become an x-ray technician, graduated first in her class and worked for Sacred Heart hospital where she met her husband Dr. Raffaele Paciulli, and that started a lifelong love for all things Italian.

She was part of the Women's Board at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading and also worked as a buyer for the Hospital gift shop for several years. She traveled extensively with family and friends, and was one of the original "Classy Broads" with her best friends Linda Schrufer and Joan Lloyd. She decided to get her college degree at 60 and took her "junior year" abroad in Venice Italy and spent many, many months there on her own, and encouraged all her friends to come and visit. Once they did, she gave them a once in a lifetime experience.

Recently she helped establish the Ukulele club and was very involved with the Drama club at the Highlands in Wyomissing. It has been said she may have been the person responsible for adding a bit of flair to the statue of Mozart located there. We will never know for sure.

Mary Ellen created joy everywhere she went. A light would go on whenever she entered a room and people were instantly drawn to her. She loved to laugh and have fun. She will always be remembered for her smile, quick wit, kind word, and generous spirit. She loved clunky jewelry, funky eyeglasses, and shoes. All three collections were quite extensive. She never met a dessert she didn't like.

She is survived by her children Marianne Paciulli (Peter DeLuca) Bruno Paciulli, Matthew Paciulli (Shelly), Paciulli grandchildren Shawn, Tony, Emma, Joie, and Teya, a sister Nora O'Malley (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raffaele, son Tony, and infant daughter Maria.

In lieu of flowers she has asked that everyone share an act of kindness.

A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date. Lutz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.LutzFuneralHome.com
