John R "Jack" Tompkins

May 8, 1945 — December 12, 2021

John R. "Jack" Tompkins, 76, of Pennside, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanette (Tomlinson) Tompkins, of Lower Alsace Township, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage. Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joel C. and Beatrice (Ponting) Tompkins. He graduated from Dobbins Technical High School, and then Millersville University in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts. Jack was an Eagle Scout, and a board member at the Human Society. Jack was a teacher and bowling coach at Reading School District from 1971-1997 until his retirement. He then became a car salesmen at Bayliss & Golden.

In addition to his wife Jeanette, Jack is survived by his children; John R. Jr., husband of Theresa, Becky Tompkins Cortez, and Amanda Tompkins. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jacek, Jisan, Sophia, Ethyn, Eliana, and Leira. Jack was predeceased by his brother LaRue Tompkins.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm with services beginning at 6:30 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Mt. Penn, PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
