Memorial Service in Berks County, PA

Coming together after a loss is an essential part of the grieving process. Let Lutz Funeral Home help you create a memorial service in Berks County, PA to honor, remember and affirm the life of your loved one.

Lutz Funeral Home in Reading, PA, has been providing personalized and professional care for you and your loved ones since 1884. For five generations, Lutz family members have proudly served the community with integrity, unmatched service and excellence.

Celebrate a Life

Whether you are planning for yourself or a loved one, the funeral service is one of the most important elements of the final arrangements. A funeral or memorial service fills an important role regardless whether you have decided on burial or cremation. It can:

  • Provide closure after the loss of a loved one
  • Honor and celebrate the life it honors
  • Allow friends and family to say their final goodbyes
  • Enable friends to support and console the family of the loved one

In general, a funeral service takes place with the casket or urn present, while a memorial service is held without the remains present. There is no single “right way,” however, to plan a service.

At Lutz Funeral Home, we believe that each service should be as unique and memorable as the life it honors.  We offer our help not only to families at the time a death occurs, but also to individuals who wish to pre-plan funeral or memorial services. Our goal is to help you make decisions by providing information about the many options that are available.

Perhaps there is a special place that your loved one would like to have their final goodbye? It could be at the beach, or in a favorite park. We have even seen services staged on the 18th hole of a golf course! The choices are limited only by your imagination, and our Funeral Directors will help you select the perfect location and create a memorable service.

Funeral Service
Funeral services can be formal or informal. Although your faith or culture may dictate some elements of the service, you may want to personalize all or part of it. The funeral service can be held at the beautiful Lutz Funeral Home chapel or another unique setting of your choice. No matter where you decide to gather together, the funeral service will make a difference in the lives of everyone who attends.

Viewing and Visitation
A viewing or visitation takes place before a formal funeral service, most often on the evening before or on the same day as the funeral services. At a “viewing,” the body of the deceased is present in an open casket. At a “visitation, the body may be present in a closed casket or not at all. They may include a brief service with prayers, or simply provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather, grieve, and console one another.

Memorial Service/Celebration of Life
Memorial services are held without a casket or urn present, and give family and friends an opportunity to exchange stories and other personal tributes to celebrate the life of the deceased person. They can be held at our chapel or any other location of your choice. Photos and memorabilia are a lovely way to personalize the services, and the experienced Lutz Funeral Home staff is available to offer suggestions and alternatives to help you create a meaningful tribute.

Lutz Funeral Home is available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week to help you plan a funeral or memorial service for yourself or a loved one in Berks County, PA. You can reach us at (610) 376-7121. We are here to assist you at every step.
