Robert Jon Alt

Robert Jon Alt, 76, of Reading, passed away Thursday, January 17th, 2013 in Reading Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William R. and Elizabeth M. (Border) Alt. Bob served in the United States Navy Reserves from 1954-1962. He was a member of the Historical Society of Berks County where he volunteered for many years, The Reading Liederkranz, past president of the Met-Ed/GPU Employees Association, board member of the Met-Ed Retirees Association of Berks County and was the treasurer of the Mt. Penn Borough Municipal Authority. Most of Bob’s business career was spent at Metropolitan Edison Company’s corporate headquarters in Reading. He was hired on July 19, 1965, and served as an accountant in the General Books Department. by the mid 1970′s, he was given the opportunity to transfer to the Payroll Department, which affo rded him the opportunity to excel in a very interesting and dynamic department. Bob became the in-house expert on payroll taxes and enjoyed the challenge of meeting with local IRS agents to resolve payment issues. On June 30, 1994, Bob retired after 29 years of service. Bob is survived by several cousins, numerous friends and his Godson Joseph M. Weaver. Memorial Service from the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mount Penn on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at 11:00 am. Friends may call from10:00 am to11:00 am.
