George A. Auchter, 87, formerly of Pennside and most currently of Oley, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in his residence. He was the husband of Rita (Lazarski) Auchter with whom he just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Born in Reading, he was a son of George A. and Anna (Parks) Auchter. George was a 1944 graduate of Central Catholic High School and he earned an Electrical Engineering Degree from Villanova University in 1951. George was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II aboard the USS Nevada. He was a member of St Catharine of Siena R.C.C. He was a 55 year charter member and the past president of the Reading Serra Club. He served as a past president of the Reading Chapter Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. He was also an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the American Legion. George was also the first president of the Home School Organization for St. Catharine’s School and he initiated the SCRIP program at St. Catharine’s Parish. George was an electrical engineer for Gilbert Associates in Wyomissing for 41 years until his retirement. In addition to his wife, George is survived by: Three Sons: Dr. David M. Auchter husband of Debra of Reiffton, Gregory A. Auchter husband of Diane of Mount Penn and Ret. Lt. Col. (Air Force) Steven V. Auchter husband of Lorraine of Edmond, OK; Two Daughters: Francine M. Reis of Vancouver, WA and Mary Ann wife of Thomas Trainer of Mount Penn; Eleven Grandchildren – Brian, Christine, Stephanie, Lindsey, Geoffrey, Hannah, Jenna, Andrew, Lauren, Nicholas and Kelsey and Nine Great-Grandchildren; Three Brothers: Karl J. Auchter of Lancaster, James L. Auchter husband of Margaret of Reading and Bernard V. Auchter husband of Maureen of Bethseda, MD. He was pre-deceased by his brother Msgr. John A. Auchter and Two Sisters: Josephine Frederick and Louise Auchter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C.,4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606 on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.at the church. Family and friends are asked to gather at the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave., Mt. Penn on Monday morning by 11:00 a.m. to process to the committal services at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum.
