George R. Bender

George R. Bender, 83, of Mount Penn, passed away Thursday, April 17th, 2014 in the Reading Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Richland, PA he was a son of the late George M. and Molly (Zug) Bender. George served his country for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, mainly in communications. George was the former president of Penn Alsace Football and a former board member of the A.V.R.C. He also loved woodworking. George is survived by: Two Sons: Richard A. Bender husband of Robin J. of Collegeville and Karl Bender of Los Angeles, Two Daughters: Debra A. wife of Mark Guinther of Mt. Penn and Judy wife of Frank Amato of Exeter Township; Eleven Grandchildren: Jeff, Tim, Jon, Melissa, Kenny, Richie, Jason, Francesco, Tony, Karl, Jr. and Chad; Seven Great-Grandchildren; Two Sisters: Barbara Daubenspeck of Leesport and Mary Lou Seiders of Sinking Spring, PA. He was pre-deceased by a son Kenneth R. Bender in 2003. Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 pm to7:00 pm. with services beginning at 7:00 P.M.
