Eugene P. "Gene" Bergstresser Jr.

January 11, 1936 — April 1, 2021

Eugene P. "Gene" Bergstresser Jr, of Fleetwood, passed away on April 1, 2021, in Wernersville, Pa. surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Jane "Marcie" (Kaufman) Bergstresser with whom he celebrated 25 years of marriage. Born in Royersford, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary (Strauss) Bergstresser. Gene graduated from Royersford High School class of 1953 and then attended Delaware Valley College. He was a member of Pottstown AMBUC, Lehigh Falls Fishing Club, Stonersville Fire Co., Berks County Patriots, and NRA. In his early years he was a farmer, and then went on to be the owner and operator of Amity Industries and Amity Machine for many years until his retirement. Fishing was Gene's true passion in life and he would always say that "a bad day fishing beats a good day at work." Gene had a love for birds, gardening, and roses. Gene's family wishes to thank Caring Hospice, Monica Dean and Jean Chery.

In addition to his wife Marcie, Gene is survived by his daughter Barbara Dietrich wife of Michael, Pikeville, step-children Stephen Young husband of Michelle, Maryland, Peter Young, Temple, Kelly Rafferty wife of Michael, East Stroudsburg, and Wendy Young, Laureldale. Gene is also survived by ten grandchildren; Melissa, Paul, Mark, Stephanie, Casey, Matt, Nate, Chris, Tyler, Sara, four step-grandchildren Samantha, Rachel, Jackson, Jan; five great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. He also has two sisters, Patricia Heildebile and Mary Alice Rissmiller. He was predeceased by his son Frank husband of Janet, New Holland, and his daughters Cindy Nowotarski wife of Michael, Kunkletown, and Debra Maute, New Holland.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday April 7, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading Pa 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Reading Salvation Army 301 South 5th St. Reading, Pa 19602. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
