Gerald A. Brown, 96, of Reading passed away Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 in Rittenhouse Senior Living. He was the husband of Trula V. (Sturgill) Brown. Born in Reading he was a son of the late Robert P. and Marion (Strausser) Brown. Gerald was a graduate of Reading High School in 1934 and attended the Wyomissing Polytechnical Institute. He was originally a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Reading and a member of Floral City U.M. Church-Floral City, FL. Gerald was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served as a gyroscope specialist on Mine Sweeper Vessels in the Pacific Theater. He played for several local baseball and basketball teams. He enjoyed shipbuilding, clock building and arts and crafts. He was a carpenter and master craftsman and always maintained a sense of humor. Gerald was a machine erector for 45 years for Textile Machin e Works until his retirement in 1978. After retirement, he taught children about World War II, the U.S. Navy and its Ships. In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by: One Son: Terry L. Brown husband of Diana of Germansville, PA; One Daughter: Bonnie L. Sekella of Reading; Two Granddaughters: Gretchen A. and Justine A. Schade; Two Great-Grandchildren: Jaden T. and Chase P. Sarangoulis; One Sister: Shirley R. Burns of Pottstown and One Half Brother: Richard Hoverter. He was pre-deceased by Three Sisters: Jean Bouchter, Doris Brown and Elizabeth Brown and One Brother: Ronald E. Brown. There are also Three Step-Daughters: Sue, Linda and Joan. Services and Interment private at the convenience of the family. In Lieu of Flowers, Contributions may be made to Floral City U.M.
