PAUL H. LEINBACH – LOCAL BUSINESSMAN
Paul Howard Leinbach, 92, passed away April 6, 2014 in his home. Paul was born June 5, 1921 in West Reading. He was the son of the late Josiah W. and Mabel H. (Enoch) Leinbach.
Paul’s wife Theresa (Dackweiler) passed away May 23, 2000 with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
His survivors include sons: John T. Leinbach, husband of Kathy of Oley and Jeffrey P. Leinbach, husband of Christine M. of St. Lawrence. Daughters: Leslie A. Leinbach of St. Lawrence, Lynn A. Leinbach of St. Lawrence, Elizabeth A. Metz, wife of Ted Lewandowski of Lower Alsace Twp. and Allison A. Leinbach of St. Lawrence.
Sister: Erma A., widow of Richard Swope of Mt. Penn, Sister in law: Beverly Leinbach of Lower Alsace Twp., Grandchildren: Peter S. Metz husband of Gillian Conaghan of St. Lawrence, Jesse T. Leinbach of Wyomissing, Lara R. Leinbach of St. Lawrence, Joseph N. Leinbach, fiance of Lindsey Anderson of Washington, DC, Justin P. Leinbach of St. Lawrence and Heath Lahr, husband of Jill of Pennsburg, PA. Paul is also survived by his loving friend and companion, Gini Meyer.
He was Pre-deceased by his brother John C. Leinbach.
Paul graduated Mt. Penn High School in 1939 and Albright College in 1943 where he was a member of the basketball and football team and received a B.S. in Chemistry. He served in WWII in the China Burma India Theatre as a member of the Malarial Survey Batallion.
Paul was a partner in J.W. Leinbach Hardware, which was founded by Paul’s father Josiah W. in 1921. Leinbach Hardware was a staple of the Mt. Penn community for many years and Paul was a friendly face in the store even after retiring at age 75. Paul, known to many as “Ducky,” dedicated his free time to serving others. He was very active in the Lions Club. He was a Charter Member of the Antietam Valley Lions Club, Past District Governor, board member of Beacon Lodge, board member of the Lions Eyebank of Delaware Valley, and member of Bing Miller Charitable Trust. He served on many state committees. He was the recipient of numerous honors and distinguished awards over his 62 years of service in the Lions Organization.
Over the course of his life, he served on the boards of Berks Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Covenant Home Care Friends of Hospice, Antietam Valley Recreation and Community
Center, Exeter Township Recreation Board, and Exeter Township School Authority. Paul was an elected member of St. Lawrence Borough Council and a member of the Reading Berks Basketball Old-Timers. He was a member of American Legion Post, POSofA Washington Camp #230, Independent Order of Odd Fellows 141, St. John’s Lodge Number 435, F. & A.M., and Shriner. Paul was a
member of Mt. Penn Senior Citizens and Trinity United Church of Christ, Mt. Penn.
Funeral services will be held on Monday April 14th at 11:00 am in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. Mt. Penn. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5:00 pm in the funeral home.
