Charles E. Hinnershitz Jr.

Charles E. Hinnershitz Jr., 90, of Mt. Penn, passed away on May 18, 2024 in Reading Hospital Tower Health. He was the husband of Joyce L. (Kohl) Hinnershitz with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage. Born in Stonetown, he was the son of the late Charles E. Hinnershitz Sr. and Katharine (Behm). Charles was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School class of 1952. He was a member of Schwarzwald UCC, where he served on consistory for several years and was very active in the church. He was also a proud member of the United States Army, trained as a combat medic, serving during the Korean Conflict. Charles worked as a dedicated letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 38 years until his retirement in 1998. Having a hard time sitting still after retiring, Charlie then worked at Staples in Exeter for an additional 13 years. He is survived by one daughter, Lori A. Lilley, wife of Christopher of Pennside, as well as an Aunt, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed hunting with his father-in-law, Leroy, and went fishing often with his brothers-in-law, Howard and Ronald. He was an avid reader and liked sitting outside on the patio with a book by his favorite author, Clive Cussler. Charlie wanted to help everyone; family, friends, and neighbors. No matter the task, he was there. He was our "Mr. Fix It". And when the job was finished for the day he would make his manhattan and relax. Most of all, he was a family man and would have moved heaven and earth for his wife and daughter. They were his world.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday May 23 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with services beginning at 10:30 am at Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Ave, Reading PA 19606. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
