Joseph A. DeLancey, 74 passed away in his Franklin, Virginia home on January 2, 2016 with his loving wife, Joanne by his side. Born on August 22, 1941, in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Catherine A. (Frankhouser) DeLancey.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by four children, Cory A., husband to Jeanne (Mountz) DeLancey of Oley; Renee M. (DeLancey) Karras of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Autumn L. DeLancey of Lancaster; Jason K., husband to Malika (Dennis)DeLancey of Baltimore, Maryland and five grandchildren, Joseph D’Agostino, Anna Nauman, Gavin DeLancey, Reese DeLancey and Claire Nauman .
Joe is also survived by a brother, Ray W. of Temple and a sister, Joyce D. (DeLancey) Matchicka, wife of Nicholas Matchicka of Wyomissing. There are also a number of nieces and nephews surviving.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles F.
Joe was a 1959 graduate of Reading High School where he was active in scholastic sports including track, baseball and led the Red Knights football team as quarterback for three seasons. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force.
Prior to his retirement in 2014, Joe worked as Building Engineer for Park East Condominiums, Reston, Virginia for 18 years.
Joe was an avid collector of antiques with a particular interest in the repair and restoration of vintage radios; he enjoyed model ship building and was a life-long Penn State fan. He and Joanne spent numerous hours in the restoration of their Virginia Victorian which has provided a forever home for a lucky few rescued Siamese cats.
