Robert Delong Sr

Robert G. DeLong, Sr., 89, of Reading, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in Berks Heim. He was the husband of Elizabeth R. (Bauder) DeLong. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Armand and Esther (Wagner) DeLong. Robert graduated from Reading High School in 1947 and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Reading, where he taught Sunday School with his wife for 8 years. He was passionate about his job as head of maintenance for Stanley G. Flagg, & Co., Inc. in Stowe for 34 years until his retirement, where he knew the plant inside and out. He was also a member of Flagg’s Quarter Century Club. Known as Robert, Bob, Flip, Sonny, Dad, and PopPop, he loved his family immensely. Bob was an avid fan of Reading High basketball and football, Penn State football, Reading Fairgrounds stock car racing, and the Reading Buccaneers. Bob participated on the Lightwave softball team with his sons and enjoyed taking his grandkids to East Reading Pool and Hershey’s Chocolate World. Bob loved to dance…at weddings, East Reading Swimming Pool dinner dances, and hoedowns. He also loved music and could usually be heard singing, humming or whistling. If one of his kids or grandkids was participating in a sport, music or choral concerts in school, drum corps, or reffing/umping a sport, Dad/PopPop was there with a smile on his face.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two sons, Robert G., Jr. of Mt. Penn, and Keith D., husband of Verna, of Exeter Twp; one daughter, Amy L., wife of William Snook, of Fleetwood; seven grandchildren, and one sister, Doris Czarnecki of California, MD. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with services beginning at 8:00 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.at the convenience of the family.
