The Rev. Marvin E. Dewalt, 94, of The Highlands at Wyomissing, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in his home. He was the husband of Gloria L. (Snyder) Dewalt with whom he celebrated 71 years of marriage. Born in Pitman, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Jennie (Morgan) Dewalt. Marvin graduated from Shamokin High School in 1945 and Muhlenberg College in 1950 earning his bachelor’s degree. He then completed a Master of Divinity at The Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II.
Marvin served as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in East Bangor, PA, St. John's Lutheran Church in Morrisville, PA, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Reading, PA, Hill-Lobach Lutheran Parish, Pike Township, PA, and St. Joseph’s (Hill) Lutheran Church, Boyertown, PA, retiring in 1992. In his retirement he served as an Interim or Visitation Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Mertztown, PA, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fleetwood, PA, Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, PA and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Douglassville, PA. He continued preaching throughout the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod as a visiting pastor until 2018. Marvin was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing.
Marvin is survived by his four sons, Mark W. husband of Carolyn of Gastonia, NC, Paul E. husband of Stasey of Reading, Timothy B. of Flying Hills and Luke E. husband of Elizabeth of Ithaca, NY; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Also surviving is one sister Ruby Buckley of Danville, PA; and two brothers Alvin of Bridgeport, CT and Billie of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also predeceased by one sister Mae Milbrand.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 1, beginning at 2:00 PM at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd. Wyomissing, PA 19610. Face masks will be required. The service may be viewed via live-stream at Atonementwyo.org, click on services. Interment will be at Hill Church Cemetery, Boyertown, PA at the convenience of the family.
