Emanuel P. "Manny" Kolevas, 85, of Exeter Township, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 in his home. He was the husband of Catherine (Reilly) Kolevas, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Inousses, Greece, he was the son of the late Panaghoti and Eleftheria (Moundalas) Kolevas. Manny was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Manny's life was the true American Dream, starting from very little means on a small island in Greece. He took risks, joining the merchant marines and eventually migrating to America. Once in America he started at entry level restaurant jobs and eventually climbed his way up to Executive Chef at Charlie's Valley Inn. In 1983 he became a successful businessman and entrepreneur as owner of Mister Softee Ice Cream trucks across the city. He passes on a legacy of perseverance, risk taking, hard work, and generosity. In his spare time he loved all sports, especially football and basketball.
In addition to his wife, Manny is survived by his children; Maria E. Kolevas, of Reading, Pete E. Kolevas, husband of Krista, of Collegeville, and Demetri E. Kolevas, husband of Jocelyn, of Reading. He is also survived by his four grandchildren; Jacob, Alexander, Kailey, and Jaxon, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Manny was predeceased by his daughter Mary Kolevas, sisters Maria Patestas and Demetra, and brother Demetrious Kolevas.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with services beginning at 12:00 pm in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. Interment will follow at Fleetwood Cemetery, Myrtle Alley, Fleetwood, Pa 19522. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sts.
