Otto G. Esenwein, 86, of Exeter Township, passed away, Saturday April 29, 2017 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was the loving and caring husband of Joyce (Babb) Esenwein. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Otto and Pauline (Haegele) Esenwein. Otto was a supervisor at Quaker Maid Kitchens for 37 years until his retirement. After his retirement he fulfilled his life long dream and drove school bus part time for the Wyomissing School District. Also, as a youth, Otto helped his father produce Ott’s Potato Chips for the former Reeber and Bean Company. Otto was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves. He was also a faithful and dedicated member of Zion Spies Evangelical Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent, singing on the church choir, and being honored as an Honorary Councilman. He is survived by two sons Greg O. husband of Stacy M. of Reading and Glen E. husband of Tracy A. of Amity, as well as two grandchildren Tyler and Kaitlyn. He was pre deceased by a brother Erich. Otto’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he spent as much time with them as possible, dedicating himself to attend all of their events. In many youth sports circles, Otto became the teams’ favorite fan. His positive attitude and excitement was obvious to all. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Reading Hospital, the Reading Dialysis Center, and Wyomissing Health and Rehab for the care and attention they afforded Otto. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, May 2, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lutz Funeral Home Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave, Mt. Penn with services being held on Wednesday May 3 at 11:00 am in the Zion Spies Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 Spies Church Rd, Reading 19606. Interment in Spies-Zion Cemetery Alsace Township.
