Richard R. Furbeck

Richard Rutsen Furbeck, 73, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2015 at the Berkshire Center in Exeter Township. His family is extremely grateful to the loving and caring staff there.
Dick was born on April 10, 1941 in New Brunswick, N.J. He was the son of the late Howard and Helen (Caneel) Furbeck. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Elaine (DePree) Furbeck whom he married on September 23, 1967.
He graduated Highland Park High School and attended Bob Jones University. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. During his working days, he was employed by Resco Electric Company in Asbury Park, NJ as their purchasing agent. He then worked for William Morawe Incorporated in New York City and then for the Wall Township Board of Education as a Custodial Supervisor.
Dick was a past president of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Usher’s Association and an usher for 60 years. He was also a volunteer firefighter for 49 years with the Stokes Fire Company in Ocean Grove, New Jersey and a member of the Ocean Grove fire police. He was a very active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove, N.J. Since his retirement he attended North Star United Methodist Church in Exeter Township, PA.
Dick coached his children’s youth sports team. He loved to bowl and was on two leagues. He played tennis while in the Army and liked to golf. He loved spending time at the beach.
He was a caring and giving person who loved his family. He is also survived by his daughter Carolyn J. Sweeton and son Richard J. Furbeck, son-in-law George Sweeton and daughter-in-law Amanda (Whittington) Furbeck. Dick was a wonderful grandfather to Samuel, Jonathan, and Kayla Sweeton and Tatum, Noah, Charissa, Gabriel and Sabastian Furbeck. He is also survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and John Suter and nieces and nephews, Howard and Robert Furbeck and Patricia Costantino and David, Steven, and Kathryn Suter.
There will be a private family committal service in New Jersey at Monmouth Memorial Park and a memorial service at a later date in Ocean Grove, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association at 54 Pitman Ave. /P.O. Box 248 Ocean Grove, NJ 07756.
