Edward L. Gombeda, 84, of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Dolores M. (O’Connell) Gombeda with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Andrew G. and Helen (Kuntz) Gombeda.
Edward was a graduate of Hazleton High School in 1948. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War in the 28th Division Headquarters and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. Exeter Township. Edward was a family man and was a member of the American Legion in Oley. He took great pride in his high holly trees, flowers and shrubs. He enjoyed his 5 O’Clock martini. Breakfasts on Monday mornings were enjoyed with his retired Gilbert Assoc. buddies as well as the “Skunk Hollow” dinners with other buddies. He and his wife “Dolly” traveled to many countries in Europe, the Philippine Islands, China and California, summers in Stone Harbor, NJ and visits to The Villages in Florida.. He spent time in Saudi Arabia and Germany with his job at Gilbert Associates where he was a drafting supervisor for 38 years, retiring in 1991. In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by: One Son: Joseph P. Gombeda husband of Margaret Mary of Gouglersville and One Grandson: Christopher R. Stief a student at Mansfield; Two Brothers: Bernard Gombeda husband of Antoinette of Stratford, CT and Andrew Gombeda of Hazleton. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Katherine A. Gombeda who passed away January 4, 2011 and a sister Dolores Fork.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 A.M on Monday, December 22, 2014 in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. 4975 Boyertown Pike Reading, PA 19606. Entombment will be Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale, PA.
