Matthew J. ""Max"" Gross

Matthew J. "Max" Gross, 78, of St. Lawrence, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center . He was the husband of Marilyn J. (Melcher) Gross. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Suchomelly) Gross. Max was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and achieving the expert rifle commendation and a former Teamsters Union member for 10 years. He loved all animals and was a friend of nature. Max loved sitting on the front porch watching those who pass by. He was a steelworker union employee for NGK Metals for over 30 years. In addition to his wife, Max is survived by two sons, John R. Gross husband of Kelly S. of Mount Penn and Matthew B. "Max" Gross husband of Susan M. of Exeter Township; two grandchildren, Alexander G. and Aaron M. Gross; three great-grandchildren, Easton and Maccoy Kircher and Karlee Messner; one brother, John M. Gross husband of Susan L. of Exeter Township and one sister, Dolores wife of Richard Barth. He is also survived by his cat, Garfield and his grand dog, Bentley. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 12:00-1:30 pm with services beginning at 1:30 pm in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606.
