Stewart K. Haring, 95, of Reading passed away May 18th, 2013 in ManorCare Health Services, Sinking Spring. He is survived by his beloved wife, Miriam R. (Drace) Haring, whom he married October 16, 1971. He was born in Reading, September 11, 1917, the son of honest, hard-working parents, Wallace I. and Annie M. (Schlegel) Harring. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on January 12, 1919 and was confirmed on June 13, 1937, at St. John’s German Evangelical Lutheran Church. From 1980 to 1985, Pastor Haring served as supply pastor in numerous churches and denominations in Berks and surrounding counties. From1985-1988, he was associate pastor of Community Bible Church, Temple, and from 1988 to 2003, as pastor. Prior to entering the ministry, he was employed from 1957 to 1979 by Reading Public Library. Pastor Haring received an Associate in Arts degree, with academic honor, from Reading Area Community College in 1978. He graduated from Alvernia University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, magna cum Laude. He received the master of Divinity degree in 1983 from the Evangelical Theological Seminary, Myerstown, where he was awarded The American Bible Society annual award for excellance in Biblical Studies. He was ordained into the Christian ministry on July 26, 1984, by the Evangelical Church Alliance, at Huntington College, Huntington, Indiana. On the day of his confirmation in 1937, Pastor Haring was given I Timothy 6:12 as his life’s memory verse: “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” He now rests on this promise in II Timothy 4: 6-8: “The time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them that love his appearing.” Other survivors are a daughter, Elizabeth J. (Haring), wife of John E. Pieja, Lebanon; and a son, John W. Haring, Birdsboro. there are two grandsons, Darryl A. and Brian S. Zweizig; three granddaughters, Diane M. (Hart) Reidnauer, Susan E. (Pieja) Amodei and Tina M. (Haring) Bitler. There are also two great-grandsons, Elijah and Joshua Zweizig, two great-great grandsons Stephen, P and Banyan Zweizig and one great-great granddaughter Zooey Zweizig, a brother in law and his wife, George S. and Jeanette Drace and a son in law Leon Hart. Pastor Haring was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy M. (Haring) Hart, on March 9, 2006, and a brother, Stanley M. Harring on May 27, 1979. Services will be held at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave, Mt. Pennon May 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am. Friends may call from10:00 am t o11:00 am. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
