Robert Eagle Harper, 96, of Douglassville, passed away, Sunday, July 2, 2017 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Mary L. (Hartman) Harper with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Richard and Jennie (Hinnershitz) Harper. Bob was proud to serve in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Bob started his teaching career in a one room school house in Woodchoppertown, received his Masters in Education from Temple University, and concluded his career as the Director of Special Education at Boyertown School District. Bob was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church. He loved reading, RV camping, and fishing. He was always very active and even at the age of 95 was still going to the gym everyday. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by one son Robert A. husband of Kristy of Shillington, three daughters Rebecca L. Hesser widow of Ronald S. of DE, Susan H. Reppert wife of Patrick A. of Birdsboro and Jennifer M. Giles wife of William A. III of MD. He is also survived by six grandchildren Jeremiah, Emily, Michael, Benjamin, Evan, Braden, three great grandchildren, Phoebe, Malachi, Esther and one brother Richard H. Harper. Bob was pre deceased by one brother M. Edward, one sister Dorothy Gromis, and one granddaughter Courtney. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave Mt. Penn.
