Russel B. Hasson, 87, formerly of Lincoln Park and most recently of Country Meadows-Wyomissing, passed away,Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the widower of Miriam M. (Stick) Hasson who passed away March 17, 2005. Born in St. Lawrence, he was a son of the late Charles H. and LaRue M. (Weidner) Hasson. Russel was a graduate of Mount Penn High School in 1947 and the Penn State Extension of the Wyomissing Polytech Institute studying Architectural Drafting/Engineering. He also attended the Penn State Extension of the Wharton Business School. Russel was a member of St. John's Reformed Church-Sinking Spring and was a member of Puritan Lodge #740 F&AM which merged with Reading Lodge #549 F&AM. He was the worshipful master of #740 in 1977 and again in 1988, a member of the Valley of Reading Scottish Rite Bodies, member of the Rajah Shrine serving 10 years as "Surgeon" in the Legion of Honor 1993-2002, as captain of the Legion of Honors Marching Unit 2006, as president of the Reception Committee in 2004 and 2006, as Treasurer of Past Masters Club since 1995 and as Secretary of Rajah Shrine Club since 2006. He was also a member of the POSof A Washington Camp #230 since 1946 and also served as the past president. Russel worked 22 years in the lumber and building supply business last as a manager for 11 years for Wickes Corp., Chapin Lumber and Merritt Lumber. He then worked 22 years in the precast concrete industry retiring from High Concrete Structures in Denver, PA on February 14, 1992. He served as their sales engineer, sales manager, assistant and chief of staff to the President and director of Quality Management/Improvement. Russel is survived by two sons, David C. Hasson husband of Denise and James M. Hasson husband of Barbara both of Sinking Spring; grandchildren: Lindsay, Connor, Brittany Hess and Michael; great-grandchildren: Isaac Hess and Bryson; brother, Richard C. Hasson and sister, Marguerite L. Waldman; and his longtime friend and companion Mary Jane Wilhelm. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 am with a Masonic Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. and a religious service immediately following in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. Interment in Berks County Memorial Gardens- Maidencreek Township.
