Ruth J. Hasson, 89, formerly of St. Lawrence, passed away in Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. She was the wife of Arlan W. Hasson who passed away February 15, 1999.
Born in Jefferson Township, she was the daughter of the late Daniel M. and Katie (Balthaser) Fox. Ruth was a 1943 graduate of Penn Bernville High School and a 1946 graduate of The Reading Hospital School of Nursing where she was a member of the Cadet Nurses. She worked as a registered nurse at the Reading Hospital and also for Drs. Bartos, podiatrists. She was a faithful and active member of Community United Church of Christ where she served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday Schooland Bible School Teacher and member of the Bell Choir. Ruth was a member of the St. Lawrence Women’s Club, The Alumnae Association of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, Penn-Bernville Alumni Association and the Exeter Township Senior Citizens Group where she served as secretary for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking, working in her flower gardens, travelling and Scrabble.
Ruth is survived by one son: Thomas A. Hasson of Birdsboro; two daughters: Nancy M. Hipp of Royersford and Kate L. Eichelberger of Manheim; one granddaughter and four step-grandsons. She is also survived by two sisters, Sara Weaver and Laura Strouphar. She was predeceased by brothers John, Ammon and Myles Fox and sisters Marian Bertram, Dora Fox and Catherine Wolf.
Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with services beginning at 10:30 AM, at Community United Church of Christ, 3330 St. Lawrence Avenue, Reading, PA 19606 Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community UCC Memorial Fund at the address above.
