It is with shattered hearts and broken souls that we announce the death of Nathaniel G. "Nate" Hess, 42, of Robesonia, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
He was the husband of Christine (Barbara) Hess. Born in Reading, He was the son of the late Emanuel "Chuck" Hess and Amy (Hafer) Miller, wife of Andrew, of Wernersville. He was the stepson of Brooke Gardner. Nate was a 1996 graduate of Reading High School. Nate graduated from the Reading Police Academy in 2002 and started his law enforcement career with the Reading Police. He worked with several departments with the last as a patrolman for the PA State Capitol Police. Nate was a Firearms Instructor, Taser Instructor, Field Training Officer, and a member of the Special Response Team (SRT). Nate was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #85.
Nate was a bright and fierce star that burned out all too soon. Family was everything to him. He was one of the smartest men you'll ever meet. He had a keen insight into the human psyche. He had a great, albeit dry, sense of humor. His huge heart was evident by his willingness to help anyone and everyone who needed it. He was a man you could count on to be there for you. He had a phenomenal knowledge of firearms and sneakers, both of which were reflected in his vast collection of both, especially sneakers. He had a special knickname for everyone. Words are hard to come by to describe the unique man that he was. There will never be another like him. He leaves a whole in the world that will never be filled.
Along with his wife, Nate is survived by his children: Kalyssa Reis and Kaleb and Chloe Hess, all of Hamilton New Jersey, Jeffrey Barbera of Hazelton and Hailey Hess, at home. Nate is also survived his siblings: Andrew Miller of Wernersville, Kristie Haag, wife of John, of Womelsdorf and Cecilia Castaneda, wife of RJ, of Globe Arizona. He will be terribly missed by his uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
