James W. Hornberger, Sr., 96, of Cumru Township, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in his residence. He was the widower of A. Louise (Ganster) Hornberger who passed away November 9, 2007. Born in Shillington, he was a son of the late John W. and Sophie (Dugas) Hornberger. James was a graduate of Shillington High School in 1938 and met with former classmates. He was also a graduate of Kutztown State University in 1950 with a BS in Education. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. James was the former Chairman of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts at Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, Pack 331, the district commissioner for Penns Pioneer Boy Scouts-Daniel Boone, past president and director of the Berks County Mineralogical Society, the former director and a charter member of the Daniel Boone Foundation and an active member in the over the hill gang at Joanna Furnace. James is survived by one son, James W. Hornberger, Jr. of Ephrata; three grandchildren; Elias, Ruth and Naomi and eighteen great-grandchildren whom he loved spending time with. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Titus. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 9:30-10:30 am with services beginning at 10:30 am in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606.
