Ruth C. Houp (Wegman)

July 11, 1923 — November 14, 2021

Ruth C. (Wegman) Houp, 98, of Oley, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, in her home. She was the wife of Lawrence Houp, who passed away January 9, 2021 with whom she celebrated 74 years, 10 months of marriage. Born in Limekiln, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Carrie (Mertz) Wegman. Ruth was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Oley Valley High School in 1941. Ruth was the co-owner/operator of the family dairy farm. She also worked for Hoffman's Catering and in maintenance at the Oley Valley and Exeter High Schools. She and her husband mowed the Oley Union Cemetery, Spangsville for 14 years. She was pure love. Everything that was good in this world, wrapped up in one person. She looked at everyone and always pointed out the good, never judging, always complimenting, she smiled through heartaches and pain. She was the kindest person we knew. She made everyone’s day better, the minute you were in her presence. There were always large gatherings there, not just on holidays or special occasions, everyday. Meemee made everyone feel special. As soon as you walked through the door, a spread of food was laid out and you were offered coffee or tea. She lived to serve others. Saturday mornings everyone was welcome and no two Saturdays were the same. The kitchen would be full of love and laughter, stories, jokes and politics. You could hear laughter from the kitchen as soon as you opened your car door. It didn’t matter what mood you came in, you left happy. In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by two Sons; Lawrence W., husband of Priscilla, of Limekiln and Gerald W., husband of Ilona, of Oley; two Daughters; Anita Heydt, wife of Charles, of Jacksonwald and Lynne R. Cover, wife of Ronald, of Mohnton; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mae widow of Earl Hoffman of Reading and one brother Levi Wegman of Oley. She was pre-deceased by five brothers; Myron, Robert, Sylvanus, Daniel Wegman and Dr. Harold Wegman.
