James H. Bitting, 94, of Exeter Township, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in his residence. He was the widower of Joan (Pennock) Bitting, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. James was the companion of Sandra Putt. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Grace (McDevitt) Bitting. James proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He retired from the National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer. James also retired from Met-Ed after working there for 24 years, lastly working as Maintenance Supervisor of Titus Station. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #479 F&AM for 25 years, and was a past Master for the Lodge. James was also a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.
In addition to Sandra, James is survived by his sons Scott James Bitting, husband of Cathy, of Danville, PA, and Mark James Bitting of Wyomissing. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his sisters Vivian and Emma "Pat".
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, with services beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606.
