Joseph T. Murphy, 77, of Exeter Township, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Dolores (Wachter) Murphy, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage. Born in Pottsville, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anne (Romanko) Murphy. Joseph graduated from Nativity BVM High School and St. Joseph's University with his Bachelor's Degree. He was employed at Reading Central Catholic High School.
In addition to his wife Dolores, Joseph is survived by his children; Michael Murphy, husband of Cindy, of Collegeville, Brenna Castaneda, wife of Julian, of Collegeville, and Meghan Murray, wife of Jim, of Ocean City, NJ. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Ryan, Lauren, Benjamin, Isabel, Emilia, Lincoln, and Carson.
Joe was a popular and well loved Social Studies teacher and coach at Central Catholic for 43 years. He was an Assistant Football Coach and served as Athletic Director for 10+ years. But he is best known for his 36 year career as the Head Baseball Coach for the Cardinals.
Joe loved being a Pop Pop and spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing and golf. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Green Bay Packers, St. Joseph's Hawks and the biggest Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606.
