Virginia (Snyder) Kaufmann, 98, of Lower Alsace Twp., passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, in the presence of loving family. She was the wife of the late William S. Kaufmann for 56 years until his death on December 18, 2005. Born in Cumru Twp., she was the daughter of the late Roger and Eva (Schaeffer) Snyder. Virginia graduated from Reading High School. Primarily a homemaker, she also worked part-time at Hanne Pastry Shop and Martin Brothers Printing, Mt. Penn. She was a member and regular attender of Pennside Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to Altrusa International, the Community Hikers, where she met her husband, Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club, and Berks Co. Bicycle Club. Virginia was a volunteer at the Berks Co. Historical Society and tutored city children in reading at the Reading Public Library. She appreciated art, the symphony, and reveled in international travel. Virginia was also an avid walker and outdoors enthusiast, enjoying backpacking, birding, ice skating, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, and sledding.
Virginia is survived by her children; Michael Kaufmann, husband of Amy, and Janice Witmer, wife of Tom. She is also survived by her brother, Gary Snyder, and her sister, Shirley Bolig. Virginia was the oldest of eight children.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm in Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N. 25th St. Reading, PA 19606. The service may also be viewed via live stream on Pennside Presbyterian Church's Facebook page http://www.pennsidepresby.org/#!/page_Home. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N 25th St., Reading, Pa 19606, or Olivet's Boys and Girls Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd, Reading, Pa 19611.
