Gladys Virginia Knabb (Shurr), 92 of St. Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018, in Reading Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Paul H. Knabb. They were married on April 1, 1950 and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Exeter Township, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Sarah (Boone) Shurr. She is survived by three brothers, Gary, Larry, husband of Pauline, and Neil Shurr. She is predeceased by one brother Delbert Shurr and one sister Shirley Gehring. Gladys was a 1943 graduate of Mount Penn High School, where she met her future husband and was known as a good athlete and the mystery girl of the class. Gladys worked for 17 years in the accounting office at Berkshire Knitting Mills, before dedicating time to raising her 3 children.
An active member of Schwarzwald U.C.C., she was dedicated to helping in the kitchen, making Christmas cookies or chocolate Easter eggs. Gladys was an avid seamstress, bowler and card player, and often spent time cheering her favorite golfers or Duke Blue Devils. Favorite evenings included Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, or Lawrence Welk, plus a few naps before working jigsaw puzzles on the computer. And she always enjoyed beating her family at dominoes, or giving “the glare” when things didn’t quite go her way. She will be missed more than words can express.
Gladys is survived by her two sons, Paul H. Knabb, Jr., husband of Therese of Exeter, Mark A. Knabb of Evanston, IL; one daughter Bonnie wife of Michael Wager of Bozman, MD; and grandchildren Benjamin and Corey Wager and Oliver and Annie Knabb.
The family would like to especially thank the kind medical staff of Reading Hospital and Heartland Hospice Care.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 10:00 am -11:00 am, with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading.
