Lawrence R. "Bud" Sweigert

Lawrence R. "Bud" Sweigert, 93, of Wernersville, formerly of Lower Alsace Township, passed away on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024 in Phoebe Berks Village. He is the widower of Joyce (Dunkelberger) Sweigert, who passed away on March 29th, 2015. Bud was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, Jacksonwald. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for the Reading Railroad, then Conrail, as a conductor for 39 years until his retirement. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years, where he served as the jack-of-all trades. He was also a member of the United Transportation Union.

Bud is survived by his four children: Barrie, husband of Carol, Sinking Spring; Gregg, husband of Donna, Exeter Township; Glenn, husband of Cindy, Leesport; and Anne, wife of Dr. Jeffrey Hassel, Cape May, NJ. He is survived by his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bud was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Ziegler, and his brother, Kenneth Sweigert.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, May 20th at Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane, Reading, PA, 19606. Viewing from 9-10 am, service at 10 am, followed by interment at Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Schwarzwald Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Bud's memory. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
