M. Susan Yapsuga

M. Susan (Schwenk) Yapsuga, 80, of Exeter Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center while with family. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Victoria T. (Rozycki) Schwenk. Susan graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School in 1961 and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C.

A former Duryea Hillclimb competitor and an avid Sixers fan (never missing a game if she could help it), Susan retired from Bell Telephone to focus on her main passion - raising her family. She also spent many years working at Schmeck's Villa during that time. Susan, "Susie," always knew how to be the life of the party. She had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She was witty and fun. She was feisty, strongly independent, and forever caring and loving. She was strong-willed, but that defined her and helped her deal with life's challenges.

Susie's greatest joy was her children. You could always find her being their number one fan and supporter at all of their sporting, school, or life events throughout the years. While her greatest joy was her children, her greatest source of pride and achievement was her grandchildren and watching her family grow. Her best memories were at the beach with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be most remembered for loving and caring for her entire family. She was the bond and glue of the family. She was loved and will be missed.

Susan is survived by her children: Marisa Gilbert, wife of Paul Gilbert, Exeter Township; Alicia Dauble, wife of Brian Dauble, Exeter Township; Kristen Yapsuga-Reinert, wife of Todd Reinert, Exeter Township; and Edward Yapsuga, husband of Stacey (Fedorchak) Yapsuga, Fleetwood. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Morgan, Aidan, Braylon, Chloe, Cayden, Andrew, Katelyn, Joshua, Sienna, Jack, Hunter, Luke, and Emily, as well as her siblings, Francis V. Schwenk, Richard J. Schwenk, Phillip Schwenk, husband of Debbie, Maria S. Wesner, wife of Jonathan, and Elizabeth Ann Buss, wife of Gregory. Susan was predeceased by her sister, Rita (Schwenk) Rutkowski, and brother, John Schwenk.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 am in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C., 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606. Internment will be held privately at Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading, PA 19605. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C.
