Mark A. Balatgek

Mark A. Balatgek, 60, of Exeter Township, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from numerous health complications. He was the husband of Holly A. (McCloughan) Balatgek. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Arnold P. Balatgek and Carol (Tiderman) Dietrich. Mark graduated from Exeter Township High School (Class of 1982) where he lettered in baseball and football, going on to attend Kutztown University. For many years, Mark worked as a master electrician for the Reading School District.

Despite lifelong health obstacles, Mark dedicated his life to the academic and athletic success of his daughters, Kaila Balatgek, fiancée of Damein Lobach, and Katrina Balatgek Thompson, wife of Chris. Mark had such a positive impact on female student-athletes everywhere, coaching for Sacred Heart CYO, Exeter Little League Softball, Berks Catholic Softball, Boyertown Storm Softball, and Spring-Ford Sting Softball. Even though Mark endured two kidney and pancreas transplants, he proudly never missed his daughters’ games.

He is also survived by his siblings; Lynn A. Troutman, wife of Mike, Gary M. Balatgek (whom donated his kidney to Mark), husband of Teresa, Chris A. Balatgek, and Michael Unger. 

*A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606.* Interment will be held privately.
