Edgar P. Martin, 92, of Mount Penn, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Rita J. (Sergeant) Martin. His first wife, Pauletta L. (Koch) Martin passed away August 25, 1994.
Born in Blue Field, WV, he was the son of the late Roger and Thelma (Fowler) Martin. Edgar was a graduate of Mount Penn High School in 1942 and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II in the 45th infantry Division and was a Purple Heart Recipient.
Edgar was the founder of Martin Bros. Printing Company in Mount Penn, a business which he co-owned for over 40 years. He was the past President of the Mt. Penn Rotary Club, a member of the Isaac Hiester Lodge #660 F&AM, the Rajah Shriners and the Reading Consistory.
Edgar enjoyed retirement, spending much of his time at a vacation home in Ocean City, New Jersey. He later owned a vacation home in Melbourne Beach, FL where he spent many winters. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, playing cards, and woodcarving.
Surviving are sons Craig R. Martin, husband of Judy K. of Rehoboth Beach, DE and James W. Martin, husband of Lisa R. of Bowmansville, PA; two step-children: Mary Jo Hart of Mt. Penn and Michael Christian of Reading; five grandchildren: Jessica, Austin, Shane, Miranda, and Monika; and four great-grandchildren: Christian, Courtney, Marissa, and Viridius.
He was predeceased by Brothers Donald Martin and Richard Martin, and a grandson, Steven C. Martin.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 1:00-2:00pm with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 2:00pm in St. Catherine of Siena Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. Internment in Schwarzwald Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church Memorial Fund at the above stated address.
